Gardening Tips: This Simple Salt Trick Could Transform Your Money Plant

Money plants, widely admired for their decorative appeal and auspicious symbolism in homes, often face slow growth and small, pale leaves, leaving plant enthusiasts frustrated. However, gardening specialists at Alpha Vatika suggest that a few simple, low-cost measures can dramatically enhance the plant’s growth, producing broad, glossy leaves reminiscent of betel leaves. According to the experts, Epsom salt, commonly found in households, can play a crucial role in promoting leaf growth. Magnesium, a key component of the salt, accelerates chlorophyll production, leading to thicker, darker green leaves. Gardeners are advised to dissolve one teaspoon of Epsom salt in a litre of water, lightly mist the leaves once a month, and pour the remaining solution into the soil to boost overall nutrient absorption and growth. Pruning, experts emphasise, is equally important. Trimming vine tips slightly above the nodes encourages lateral branching rather than vertical growth, resulting in a denser and bushier plant. Removing yellowed, old, or excessively long vines periodically ensures that the plant’s energy is channelled into healthy, new foliage. (News18 Hindi)

The growth of aerial roots also significantly impacts leaf size and plant vitality. Supporting the vine with a moss stick or rough wooden pole allows these roots to absorb moisture efficiently while drawing nutrients from the soil. Regularly spraying the support with water helps maintain adequate moisture for optimal growth. (News18 Hindi)

Location and lighting are critical as well. Money plants do not thrive under direct sunlight, which can scorch their leaves. Experts recommend placing the plant in bright, filtered light and watering only when the top 1-2 inches of soil have dried. For plants grown in water, changing the water every 15 days ensures a healthy environment. (News18 Hindi)
