Madonna reflects on being ‘possessed’ with ideas

Pop icon Madonna has reflected on her songwriting process, revealing that she often feels “possessed” by creative ideas when she is working on new music.
Speaking during an interview on BBC‘s The Graham Norton Show, which aired on Friday, 26 June, the legendary singer opened up about her artistic flow while giving fans a glimpse inside the studio where she has been busy recording her highly anticipated upcoming album, Confessions II.
The global superstar explained that her best work tends to happen completely naturally when she lets go of the pressure to force inspiration.
“It’s kind of like I get possessed. The ideas come when I don’t try too hard,” she told the host.
When Norton asked specifically about her new song One Step Away, Madonna shared that the track was particularly close to her heart, explaining that it “came from the soul”.
The fascinating insight into her creative mindset comes as the final countdown begins for Confessions II, which is officially set for release on 3 July.
Fans have already had a taste of the bold direction the musician is taking after she teased the upcoming project earlier this month with a wild short film at the Tribeca Festival.
According to an official release, the cinematic teaser follows the singer on “a transcendent journey that catapults the viewer through a f—ked-up night out”.
Aside from the solo tracks, the new album is shaping up to be a star-studded affair packed with exciting musical crossovers.
Alongside a teased potential collaboration with Australian pop royalty Kylie Minogue, Madonna has already released the track Bring Your Love with American singer Sabrina Carpenter.
In a deeply personal twist for the record, the icon also revealed that she has co-written a song with her daughter, Lourdes “Lola” Leon, making this next era of her career a true family affair.
