‘All That’ star Christy Knowings dead at 46
Christy Knowings, a beloved cast member of Nickelodeon’s sketch comedy series All That, has died at 46.
According to a family member who spoke with TMZ, Knowings suffered an asthma attack on Friday, August 7, that left her with brain damage.
She was hospitalised and placed on life support, and her family made the difficult decision to remove her from it on Tuesday, August 11, she died later that night at a Los Angeles-area hospital.
Her aunt, Tyleah Joseph, announced the death on Facebook the following day.
Knowings joined All That in 1997 after appearing on And Now This, a Rosie O’Donnell-produced sketch comedy special that also aired on Nickelodeon.
She spent three seasons as a main cast member, from Season 4 through Season 6, before later returning as a guest star in the show’s tenth season.
Among her most memorable roles was Jessica in the recurring Whateverrr!!! sketch alongside Amanda Bynes, along with characters including Penny Lane and Lieutenant Fondue.
All That ran for a total of ten seasons between 1994 and 2005 and became known as a launching pad for performers including Kenan Thompson, Kel Mitchell, Nick Cannon and Amanda Bynes.
Beyond All That, Knowings appeared in three episodes of Sesame Street between 2008 and 2011 alongside her real-life twin brother, Chris Knowings, who also worked on Nickelodeon programming including Taina and The Nick Cannon Show.
She later stepped back from acting but returned to performing briefly in 2020 with a folk single titled To the World.
Her manager, Al Hill, remembered her range as an artist in a statement to Variety.
“Christy was a multi-talented lady. Whether it was singing, acting, dancing, she was always creating. Always professional and dedicated to her work.”
Former castmate Kenan Thompson paid tribute on Facebook.
“Man this one hit hard!!! Rest well Christy!!! Never could have imagined this day!! Sending so much love to her family!! She was a real one and one of the funniest people out here!!! Gonna miss you buddy!!!”
Knowings is the second former All That cast member to die this year, following the death of Kianna Underwood in a hit-and-run collision in Brooklyn this past January.
