‘Zootopia 3′ is happening after ‘Zootopia 2′ makes history

Zootopia isn’t ready to clock out just yet.

Disney has officially announced Zootopia 3, just months after Zootopia 2 became the biggest Hollywood animated movie ever, earning a massive $1.87 billion worldwide.

The news dropped at Disney’s D23 fan event Friday, where Disney Animation chief Jared Bush was joined by Ginnifer Goodwin and Ke Huy Quan. Goodwin, who voices optimistic bunny Judy Hopps, delivered the news with a tease: “The bunny and the snake will be back!”

Bush confirmed that the next chapter will bring back fan-favorite characters while introducing a new storyline centered around birds.

The franchise follows Judy and sly fox Nick Wilde, voiced by Jason Bateman, as they tackle crime in the wildly imaginative animal metropolis of Zootopia.

The original 2016 film already crossed the $1 billion mark, but its long-awaited sequel took things to another level.

And apparently, Goodwin was already campaigning for a third movie before Zootopia 2 even proved itself at the box office.

“I’m putting everything out there trying to manifest a number three, after a much shorter break,” she told The Hollywood Reporter in 2025. 

“All we’ve got to do is get everyone in the world to go see the movie, it’s not a lot to ask.”

Mission accomplished.

Directors Bush and Byron Howard have also made it clear they see plenty of room for more stories.

“If it goes well, we would spend the rest of our careers in the world of Zootopia,” Bush previously said. “It’s the most fun place in the world and there’s so much left to explore.”

And he has a point. As Bush noted, audiences have only seen “one city on one continent on one planet.”

So yes, there are apparently plenty more animals — and probably plenty more chaos — waiting.
