Yahya Abdul-Mateen II calls out Marvel over ‘Wonder Man’

Yahya Abdul Mateen II is questioning Marvel’s decision to cancel Wonder Man.

The Disney+ show had received good reviews, and Abdul Mateen was even nominated for an Emmy for playing Simon Williams. Marvel also renewed the show for a second season in March, making the cancellation a surprise.

The actor said Marvel told him that the show was cancelled because of its viewership. However, there was one problem. He was never shown the actual numbers.

That has made Abdul Mateen wonder if the show was given a fair chance. He feels Wonder Man had more to offer, especially because of its cast, story and strong reviews.

He also spoke about Marvel’s Black led projects while talking about the cancellation. He compared the situation with Blade, which has faced a long and difficult road to the screen.

Abdul Mateen said the “optics are obvious” and believes Marvel can change that view by giving these projects strong stories and enough support.

The actor had already thought about what could happen to Simon in a second season. He wanted to show Simon dealing with the fame he had always wanted and how that success could affect his ego.

For now, Wonder Man is over, and Abdul Mateen does not know if Simon will return somewhere else in the MCU.
