LAHORE: An assistant sub-inspector (ASI) has been accused of allegedly sexually assaulting a girl with an intellectual disability inside Lahore’s Ghaziabad police station, police said on Tuesday.

According to the police, the accused, identified as Imran, allegedly brought the girl from her home on a motorcycle to the police station before taking her into a room, where the alleged assault took place.

The police said the ASI had told the girl’s family that she was wanted in connection with a case.

Following the incident, DIG Operations Faisal Kamran suspended the entire Ghaziabad police station staff, including the station house officer (SHO), two sub-inspectors, eight assistant sub-inspectors and a total of 78 personnel. The suspended officials also include the front desk staff.

According to the DIG Operations, the action was taken over poor supervision and failure to fulfil administrative responsibilities.

He said every activity inside a police station should be within the knowledge of the SHO. Meanwhile, Ali Zaib Dastgir has been appointed as the new SHO of Ghaziabad police station.
