‘Inside Out 2’ Gets Digital Streaming Premiere Date
The core emotions in “Inside Out 2.”
Inside Out 2—Disney-Pixar’s animated blockbuster starring the voices of Amy Poehler, Maya Hawke and Ayo Edebiri—is coming soon to digital streaming.
The movie, of course, is the sequel to the 2015 Best Animated Feature Oscar winner Inside Out, which follows five core emotions operating a console in the mind of a young girl named Riley (Kaitlyn Dias).
In Inside Out 2, those five emotions—Joy (Pohler), Fear (Louis Black), Sadness (Phyllis Smith), Fear (Tony Hale) and Disgust (Liza Lapira)—are back, along with a new set of emotions as Riley (Kensington Tallman) turns 13.
Feeling that Riley’s core emotions are being suppressed by a set of new emotions—including Anxiety (Hawke), Envy (Edebiri), Ennui (Adèle Exarchopoulos) and Embarrassment (Paul Walter Hauser)—Joy springs into action so her new feelings don’t take over her life.
According to streaming tracker When to Stream, Inside Out 2 will debut on digital streaming via premium video on demand on Tuesday, August 20.
When the film debuts on PVOD, it will be available for purchase or rent on several digital outlets including Prime Video, AppleTV+ and VUDU.
The pre-order price for Inside Out 2 is $29.99—per Prime Video—which is generally a reflection of the movie’s digital purchase price. The film will also be available on PVOD for rent, which is typically $5 less than the purchase price, so you can expect to rent the film for a 48-hour period for $24.99.
How Was ‘Inside Out 2’ Received By Audiences And Critics?
Inside Out 2 is one of the biggest hits at the worldwide box office in 2024. According to The Numbers, the movie has earned nearly $629.5 million domestically and $927.7 million internationally for a worldwide box office tally of more than $1.557 billion to date.
Inside Out 2, per Disney, set the record for the highest grossing animated film of all time on July 24, surpassing the studio’s blockbuster Frozen II.
The box office tracker reported that Inside Out 2 had a production budget of $200 million before prints and advertising costs.
Rotten Tomatoes critics collectively gave Inside Out 2 91% “fresh” rating, based on the 301 reviews.
RT’s Critics Consensus for the Inside Out 2 reads, “Spicing things up with the wrinkle of teenage angst, Inside Out 2 clears the head and warms the heart by living up to its predecessor’s emotional intelligence.”
Viewers on RT lauded the film even more, giving it a 95% “fresh” Audience Score based on more than 5,000 verified user ratings.
Per The Numbers, Inside Out 2 is the No. 1 movie at the worldwide box office to date and the No. 2 slot belongs to Deadpool & Wolverine, which opened in theaters on July 26.
