Jelly Roll gets brutally honest about health setback: ‘Lost my way’

Jelly Roll previously lost 275 lbs., but says he still has a long way to go

Jelly Roll is getting back up on the horse after a brief break in his health journey.

Born Jason Bradley Deford, Jelly Roll has admitted that he’s “lost” his “way” during his weight loss journey and has been “avoiding the scale” out of fear. The rapper-turned-country-star, who previously shed an astonishing 275 lbs. (125 kgs), opened up about the setbacks that followed in a YouTube vlog published April 18

Reflecting on the past few months, the Grammy-nominee explained how hitting a major milestone — appearing on the cover of Men’s Health magazine — right before the holidays led him to loosen the reins. “I was like, ‘You know what man, I’ve been working hard for the last three years losing this weight, I’m going to enjoy the holidays,’” he shared. That meant indulging in big meals across Thanksgiving, his birthday, and Christmas.

But things took a tougher turn when he broke his collarbone at the end of last year, which forced him to stop running and exercising altogether.

“I have, to some degree, lost my way,” Jelly Roll admitted, adding that he’s been “avoiding the scale” because he’s “scared” that the number he sees is going to disappoint him.

Still, the Save Me hitmaker faced his fears. And as of April 10, he weighed 276.2 lbs. — up 12 lbs.

But the bigger picture hasn’t changed. He’s back at it, aiming to lose another 40 to 50 lbs. and even dreaming of running the New York City Marathon.
