New CCTV footage emerges in Mir Raza Ali Khan murder case
KARACHI: Fresh CCTV footage has surfaced in the investigation into the murder of young businessman Mir Raza Ali Khan, with police examining a sequence of recordings to reconstruct his final movements before his death.
Raza — an IBA graduate — returned home from his shop on the night of July 28 before leaving again, telling his family he would be back within 10 minutes. Police later recovered his body from bushes in Block 1 of Gulistan-e-Jauhar.
The newly surfaced footage is being reviewed from multiple angles as investigators attempt to determine what happened in the hours leading up to the killing in Karachi’s Gulistan-e-Johar area.
One video recorded between 10pm and 11pm shows Mir Raza at his kitchen, where he can be seen taking a pistol from a drawer, checking it and later placing it in his car before leaving.
The footage suggests he may have headed towards his home afterwards. However, another CCTV recording from about 4:38am shows him walking alone on foot a short distance from the scene of the incident.
According to sources, this is the last known CCTV footage of Mir Raza before his death.
What did he take with him?
Mir Raza left behind his smartwatch, wallet and house keys before leaving home.
According to his parents, he only took his mobile phone and around Rs1,000 in cash before booking an online taxi service and departing.
What have police recovered?
Police have recovered Mir Raza’s mobile phone from approximately 200 yards from the crime scene.
A pistol holster was also recovered from the area. Both items have been sent for forensic examination, although investigators are still awaiting the forensic report on the mobile phone.
What is known about the taxi journey?
Mir Raza booked the online taxi at around 4:02am.
The driver told investigators that he dropped him off on a deserted road near the rear of Gulistan-e-Johar’s Block 1 area.
The victim’s cloud kitchen was located some distance from the drop-off point.
Did he reach the cloud kitchen?
Investigators told Geo News that they believe Mir Raza may not have reached the kitchen.
No traces of him were found there and the police had collected important items from the premises as part of the investigation.
After being dropped off by the taxi, Mir Raza was later captured on CCTV walking alone near the area at about 4:38am.
Was he carrying the pistol?
The CCTV footage shows Mir Raza handling the pistol earlier in the night, but investigators have not confirmed whether he took the weapon with him when he later left in the taxi.
The footage showing him boarding the vehicle does not clearly reveal whether he was carrying anything, as the camera was positioned at a considerable distance.
Police are continuing to examine CCTV recordings, forensic evidence and other investigative leads as they seek to establish the circumstances surrounding the murder.
