Johnny Depp in talks to return as Jack Sparrow for ‘Pirates of the Caribbean 6’

Johnny Depp may be sailing back into the Pirates of the Caribbean franchise.
Producer Jerry Bruckheimer confirmed at Disney’s D23 Expo that talks are underway for Depp to reprise his role as Captain Jack Sparrow in a sixth installment, telling reporters: “We’re talking with Johnny, we’re working on a screenplay, and hopefully we can get this done.”
According to Deadline, sources indicate the new film’s story will actually center on Margot Robbie’s character, with Sparrow appearing as a supporting figure rather than the lead, an evolution of the franchise rather than a straightforward continuation.
The last entry, 2017’s Dead Men Tell No Tales, was the lowest-grossing installment in the series at $795.9 million worldwide, though the franchise has collectively earned $4.5 billion globally.
Depp’s status with Disney has remained uncertain for years following his high-profile 2022 defamation trial against ex-wife Amber Heard.
He’s set to return to screens later this year playing Ebenezer Scrooge in Ebenezer: A Christmas Carol, out November 13, marking a broader continuation of his Hollywood comeback.
