AMD’s top-tier gaming CPUs are experiencing significant price drops, and this latest deal on the Ryzen 9 7950X3D offers a substantial 30% savings off its MSRP. This high-performance chip boasts 16 powerful Zen 4 cores and utilizes AMD’s 3D V-cache technology to boost gaming performance.

Typically, this CPU retails for around $599 on AMD’s website. However, this is the first instance of it dropping below $499. The CPU is available on Amazon and NewEgg for $492, with an additional $5 discount at NewEgg using the code SSDMMDTAZ28, bringing the final price to $486.82.

Competitive Performance against Future CPUs

AMD’s indications suggest that the Zen 4 X3D chips, like the 7950X3D, will outperform the initial Zen 5 CPUs in gaming, expected to be released in July 2024, with the Zen 5 X3D variants arriving in September. Therefore, $492 is an excellent price for a versatile 16-core CPU with solid performance in multi-threaded applications and gaming.

Considerations on Cache Allocation

However, it’s worth noting that this 16-core CPU is split into two eight-core chipsets under its heat spreader, with only one chipset featuring the large stack of 3D V-cache. Consequently, only eight cores can access this extra cache, which is still better than the six cores in the 12-core Ryzen 9 7900X3D. There may be occasional inefficiencies if a game utilizes the chipset without the extra cache, unlike the 7800X3D, but it remains a highly capable gaming CPU.

Discounts are currently available on many of AMD’s X3D CPUs, with the Zen 5 launch approaching. While prices for the eight-core Ryzen 7 5800X3D and 7800X3D remain stable, a recent deal on the Ryzen 9 7900X3D saw it drop to just $329, and the Ryzen 7 5700X3D has fallen below $200.
