Sir David Beckham is in India as a UNICEF Goodwill Ambassador for the second time. The former English footballer visited a school in Visakhapatnam, Andhra Pradesh, and spent a day with the kids looking at Project-Based Learning (PBL) in action. His visit is part of a wider Mantra4Change programme that is improving classrooms across Andhra Pradesh, Bihar, Odisha, and Nagaland.

Ayushmann Khurrana, in his role as UNICEF India National Ambassador, welcomes the iconic footballer and UNICEF Goodwill Ambassador upon his arrival in India. The two stars, celebrated in their respective fields, have consistently used their platforms to raise awareness on issues concerning the world. Their commitment extends beyond borders and is rooted in empathy, responsibility and a vision for a fair world where children can learn, dream and thrive.

On the occasion of Beckham’s visit to India, Ayushmann said, “David Beckham is an icon who leads from the front to bring focus to so many societal issues that affect people worldwide. It is incredible to see his commitment to social good and his love for India. His visits to our country inspire people to do good and bring global attention to our needs. He is a true friend of India. I’m deeply thankful for his efforts. It is truly a pleasure to be advocating for the same causes as fellow UNICEF ambassadors.”

Sharing what “a great in India” looks like, David joined students on the football field and cheered them on as they played. The students welcomed him with a dance and engaged in hands-on learning.

Speaking at an event held in Mumbai, David spoke about his excitement to return to the country. “It’s taken me two years to come back to India because of my work. The first time I came was unbelievably special. The country welcomed me with open arms, and I got hosted in many different places, so I was excited to return. I got to meet so many young children when I was working with UNICEF. This time again, it’s been special,” he said, reported the Hindustan Times.

He further added, “I’ve been told about the energy in different parts of India, but I don’t think you can understand it until you are actually here. The people, the colour, the food – everything is amazing. There are not many places in the world that have energy like this.”
