‘I was in a state of shock’: Lorraine Kelly recalls brutal TV snub

Lorraine Kelly has shared the difficult moment when she suddenly lost her job at GMTV.

The TV presenter was on maternity leave after having her daughter Rosie when she was told that someone else was chosen for her job.

Lorraine had planned to return to work in September but just weeks before that, she received a phone call that left her shocked.

She said the news was “scary” because her family had a “massive mortgage” after moving south.

Lorraine did not know what would happen next as she started doing more writing work, including a column for a parenting magazine, to help support her family.

Then, a few months later, GMTV called her again.

The show offered Lorraine a mother and baby segment with Dr Hillary Jones.

The segment became a success and soon led to Lorraine getting her own show.

Looking back, Lorraine says the experience taught her an important lesson. She never wanted to take her career for granted again.

The presenter has now spent more than 40 years on television. At 66, she is still working and has recently become the new host of Saga’s Experience is Everything podcast.

Her career may have taken an unexpected turn, but that difficult moment eventually helped lead her to where she is today.
