Katy Perry shares sweet nod to Justin Trudeau: ‘The life I deserve’

Katy Perry finally put herself first and found love with Justin Trudeau.
The popstar shared a montage set to her new song, Watch It Burn, consisting of short clips from her life over the past few weeks. In the video, which was shared to her Instagram on Sunday, June 28, Perry included multiple clips of her and the former Canadian Prime Minister, who she has been dating since late 2025.
One of the clips showed the couple at the World Cup opening match in the US earlier this month, where Perry also performed. Another showed them walking hand-in-hand at the recent premiere of her concert film, Katy Perry: The Lifetimes Tour – Live from Paris — marking their red carpet debut.
Over the video was the text, “I’m gonna get the life I deserve because I finally put myself FIRST,” a paraphrasing of the lyrics of Watch It Burn.
The song was partially inspired by her newfound love following her split from her fiancé Orlando Bloom last year.
“I have love in my life now. That’s transformed me,” the 41-year-old said on Justin Tranter’s Unfamous podcast last week. The song, featuring My Chemical Romance frontman Gerard Way, sees Perry “wrestling with [her] dark side” before she chooses to see “the light.”
Perry’s tribute to Trudeau, 54, came a day after the singer announced a last-minute cancellation of her set at the Belgian music festival Werchter Boutique due to an approaching storm.
“Sadly my set @WerchterBoutique tonight can’t happen due to a government mandated cancellation because of the incoming inclement weather and crowd safety concerns,” she announced on Instagram, revealing that she herself was notified as she was getting ready to take the stage.
“I am sorry I can’t change the weather, and even sorrier that all of us can’t be together tonight. I was looking forward to being back after 17 years, I was even gonna wear the same outfit from that 2009 show again. I love you all, please get home safe,” she added along with a sad face emoji.
