Robin Williams’ ex Charlotte Filbert honours him on death anniversary

Robin Williams’ former girlfriend, artist Charlotte Filbert, marked the 12th anniversary of the late actor’s death with a tender tribute on Instagram. 

Filbert, who was linked to Williams between 2007 and 2009 after he purchased some of her artwork, shared a carousel of photos from their time together on Tuesday, August 11, alongside a heartfelt caption. 

“12 years ago, you had to go somewhere else. I miss your voicemails. You mattered. You changed me. You made the world feel bigger.”

The post included snaps of Filbert holding framed selfies of the pair and toys Williams had given her during their relationship. 

She wrote wistfully, “I wish we were in a bookstore somewhere, having coffee, laughing holding hands. I am grateful i got to love you and to be loved by you,” before sharing a specific memory. 

“Sometimes I tell friends about the time I climbed up into your lap, started smushing your face together and said, ‘There you are, Peter,’ and you laughed and laughed. Life is so short. This still f—— hurts. There’s only one you. Thank you for everything.” 

She noted she’d set the post to Genesis’s Throwing It All Away, adding, “Robin loved this song also toys and collectibles there’s a couple he gave me at the end, a Skeksis from The Dark Crystal. I miss you, Wob.”

Williams died by suicide on August 11, 2014, at age 63, following struggles with Lewy Body Dementia, a brain disease that affects thinking, memory and movement control. 

He’s survived by three children: son Zak, 43, from his first marriage to Valerie Velardi, and daughter Zelda, 37, and son Cody Alan, 34, from his second marriage to Marsha Garces. 

Williams’ children have continued to honour his memory publicly each year, both on his July 21 birthday and on the anniversary of his death, Zak wrote in a 2023 tribute, “These days are always hard and I love remembering you for being so very, very YOU.”
