The viral video gained various reactions on social media

An Instagram video of the rescue operation quickly became popular with many people appreciating both the skills of the rescue team and the calmness of tourists despite the initial panic. Many social media users appreciated the humane treatment of the snake during the rescue, while some noted that wildlife naturally belongs in the forested areas surrounding waterfall. This event triggered many discussions about the need to balance tourism with respect for local wildlife and its habitat.

Why do snakes appear during the monsoon?

Snakes sometimes appear in the vicinity of waterfalls, rivers, and forested tourist destinations, especially during the rainy season. Due to rising water levels, changed habitats, and increasing activity in search of shelter or food, snakes sometimes appear close to the places visited by people. Most of the time, snakes avoid humans and will escape if not disturbed. It is always better to stay at a safe distance and inform the authorities.

Safety guidelines for wildlife encounters

The officials recommend remaining calm if one encounters wildlife at tourist destinations. Rushing towards the animal, trying to capture it or provoking it might be harmful. Instead of this, people should slowly get away from it, warn other people of the presence of wildlife, and inform the forest or rescue services. Being aware of one’s surroundings is especially important when visiting waterfalls, forests, and hill stations where wildlife is common.
