Lena Dunham becomes a mom after years of fertility struggles

The couple tied the knot in 2021

Lena Dunham and her husband, Luis Felber, have welcomed their first child together.

The couple — who tied the knot in September 2021 — are now parents to a baby girl born via surrogate, Dunham revealed in an op-ed for Vogue published Wednesday, September 16, with Page Six reporting that the family is currently in the US and will soon return to their North London home.

The new arrival comes after years of Dunham, 40, speaking openly about her complicated relationship with fertility. She underwent a hysterectomy in 2017 at age 31 because of severe endometriosis.

The following year, the Girls creator revealed that her remaining left ovary was “encased in scar tissue and fibrosis, attached to my bowel and pressing on nerves that made it kinda hard to walk/pee/vamp,” she wrote in an essay. “Over the last month it got worse and worse until I was simply a burrito shaped like a human.”

Last year, Dunham told The Times that she and Felber were “expanding” their family. In April, she reflected on her dream of motherhood, saying, “Whatever way it happens, I will feel so grateful.”
