‘Is she a commando?’: IHC judge asks over woman’s alleged assault on husband

The Islamabad High Court (IHC) on Monday reserved its verdict on a bail petition filed for a woman accused of assaulting her husband.
Justice Khadim Hussain Soomro heard the bail petition filed by the woman’s father on behalf of Aamna Saeed, who was arrested in a case registered over alleged assault on her husband.
The complainant’s lawyer told the court that Aamna had assaulted her husband three times and that marks of violence were visible on his body.
Justice Soomro remarked that the case had drawn attention because the alleged victim was a member of a force. “Is this woman a commando?” the judge asked after the lawyer said an iron rod had allegedly been recovered from her.
The lawyer said the rod had been “properly prepared” and kept for the alleged assault.
During the hearing, the petitioner’s lawyer said that even if the woman had assaulted her husband in anger, “she is the lordship of the house”. The remark prompted laughter in the courtroom.
The lawyer also told the court that Saeed held a PhD in philosophy, adding that there were several family issues that the court did not wish to discuss.
The court also asked whether the woman had herself taken her husband to hospital in a car after the alleged assault.
The complainant’s lawyer further alleged that the woman had also assaulted her two daughters.
During the hearing, the investigating officer told the court that the woman’s mental health had not been assessed as part of the investigation.
The IHC, after hearing arguments from both sides, reserved its verdict on the bail petition.
