Mrs Brown’s Boys Christmas special hit by shock blow

Mrs Brown’s Boys fans have been left disappointed after Brendan O’Carroll was forced to cancel the show’s Christmas plans.

The actor, 70, announced that the 2026 Christmas and New Year specials will not go ahead after doctors found two fractures in his jaw.

O’Carroll now needs immediate surgery and is expected to spend a few months recovering.

The injury also forced him to postpone the Mrs Brown’s Boys stage shows which were planned for Dublin and Killarney later this year.

The team, however, is now hoping to move those shows to 2027.

The actor shared that the decision was not easy and admitted he was “heartbroken” to disappoint fans who were looking forward to seeing the show.

He added that he now needs to focus on getting better and hopes to see fans again in 2027.

The BBC also confirmed that it is working with O’Carroll on plans for Mrs Brown’s Boys next year and wished him a “full and speedy recovery.”

The sitcom, moreover, has always been a big part of Christmas TV for many years but its recent episodes have not received the same love from viewers.

Ratings have also dropped, with the 2024 Christmas special attracting around 2.2 million viewers.
